Mother Dove holds a twig for her nest, looking lovingly down at her chick and egg. The birds have hand-embellished gold leaf haloes, with a subtle metallic glow emanating from the center of the piece. This Theotokos image is inspired by Byzantine and Orthodox renderings of mother and child, and is meant to depict the devotion dove parents show for their young. Set in a deep bronze-black frame with ornate gold accents and velvet backing.
