Madonna with the Long Neck

This painting shows a mother Mourning Dove and her twin baby chicks, as a Theotokos image.  The babies are nestled with straw and tiny blue flower vines, under the watchful eye of their mother, all encircled in gold leaf halos.  Deep blue pattern radiates from the mother dove's halo.  This piece is set in a vintage gold frame in elongated octagon shape.

This highly detailed piece is part of my series of stylized and embellished bird portraits, which encourage the viewer to contemplate the value we place on individual animal lives.
