Galapagos Finch

Galapagos Island Finch, part of a series illustrating adaptive radiation. This natural history piece was inspired by Darwin's early observations of adaptive radiation in these birds.  Finches on the Galapagos Islands are thought to have originated from a common finch-like ancestor, and evolved into various species occupying different ecological niches.  The diversity of beak shape indicates their specialized skills in foraging for food. Set in a richly finished wood frame with gold accents.
